THEME: 2009 “Years of Change”
The North Houston Frontiers Club, Inc. (NHFC) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) service organization, dedicated to providing educational and charitable assistance to needy minority students in the greater Houston area. We sponsor two major activities each year to support the organization, one of which is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast, which solely funds our scholarship program.
On Monday, January 19, 2009, the North Houston Frontiers Club held its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast. It marked the twenty-first anniversary of this event and it was a very special occasion. The Keynote Speaker was Mr. Lawrence Krishna Parker-KRS-One, Grammy-nominated Hip Hop artist, philosopher and activist. Mr. Je’Caryous Johnson, Chairman & CEO of I’m Ready Productions, Inc. is the Honorary Chairperson. Also at the Breakfast, The Prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major Award was presented to Captain Paul J. Matthews, Founder and Executive Director of Buffalo Soldiers Museum.
All of the net proceeds from the breakfast are used to fund the scholarship program. Over the past nineteen years, more than $800,000 has been awarded in scholarships. Proceeds from the 2008 Breakfast were used to fund $56,000 in scholarships (14 four-year awards at $1,000 per year) for this year alone!
We are seeking to form a Partnership with you to further the goals and ideals of Dr. King. The need is great in our community to provide opportunities for young and gifted individuals to reach the levels of success Dr. King dreamed of them achieving in this country. Our Partnership would aid the youth of Houston and retain our best students to move them along in their educational endeavors. We are requesting that you lend your voice to this educational effort through any of the following ways: Underwriting the future Breakfasts with a pledge of $30,000, participating at the Partnership Level with a pledge of $10,000, at the Platinum ($5,000), Gold ($3,000), or Silver ($1,000) Levels.
It would be our pleasure to have you join us at our Memorial Breakfast for Dr. King. We look forward to speaking with you soon. If you have any questions, please call us at 713-331-0440.
